Urological in short

Urological AS has developed a patented product and a method for replacement of permanent urine catheters. The method is expected to provide significant savings for hospitals because medical treatment is moved from the specialist care to local care. In addition, the method is expected to be safer and more comfortable for the patients.

Change of transurethral permanent urine catheters can sometimes be difficult and lead to complications in the form of damage to the urethra with subsequent bleeding, formation of "via falsa" etc. Urological has developed a set of tools that we believe will facilitate and ensure the procedure by replacing of permanent transurethral permanent urine catheters so that this can be done with less risk of complications and with less risk to the patient.

The company was founded in 2006 by Knut Eilert Karlsen, who is inventor and possesses the specialist responsibility in Urological. Knut Eilert was at that time surgeon at the Sørlandet Hospital in Arendal. Dr. Knut Eilert Karlsen is urologist and spesialist in general surgery. He has been working at Oslo University Hospital, The Norwegian Radium Hospital and is now running his own private clinic in urology and surgery.

The company was set up in cooperation with Coventure AS and was funded through the FORNY programme (www.forskningsradet.no) in its initial phase. The company has received two grants for internationalisation from the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) and is currently working on a Research & Development project in cooperation with Haukeland University Hospital and Innovasjon Norge.
